Clinical bio

Hi, my name is Michelle McNamara, a licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate in North Carolina. My focus is on helping families, couples, and individuals remain calm, connected, and compassionate with themselves and with the important people in their lives especially during seasons of transition or stress. I am particularly passionate about helping parents remain emotionally connected with their children through the often tumultuous tween, teen, and young adult years. I have come back to the field of therapy after a number of years applying the clinical principles I learned in non-clinical settings. These settings have included: family life, community leadership, mentoring, discipleship, and supportive helping roles. During this time, I regularly engaged in relational support work involving emotional attunement, grief support, conflict navigation, spiritual formation, and boundary development. This time provided me with ongoing opportunities for personal refinement and deepened my capacity for presence, discernment, and compassionate engagement with complex human experiences. As a result, I bring to my practice not only academic and clinical training, but decades of lived experience and application, maturity, and perspective, strengthening my ability to serve you with both competence and wisdom. Having been trained in Systems Theory, I recognize the importance of understanding people as a part of their larger context and how they relate to that context; whether it is their family of origin, their chosen family, or their community. Using techniques from Structural and Multigenerational therapy, as well as Narrative and Solution-focused therapy, I aim to help you remain calm even through the storms of life, connected in healthy ways with your loved ones even in disagreement, and compassionate with yourself and others, whatever life brings. Born and raised in New England, I have called the Charlotte area home for 20 years. In my free time, there’s nothing I like more than traveling with my family, reading good books, and walking or hiking the beautiful woods of North Carolina.
