Clinical bio
Welcome! I’m Amanda Houghton, a Licensed Independent Social Worker with over 13 years of experience supporting individuals through some of life’s most challenging and meaningful transitions. I believe that each person’s journey is unique, and that therapy can provide a safe and supportive space to better understand the past, navigate the present, and cultivate hope for the future. My primary areas of focus include anxiety, depression, stress management, life transitions, and helping adults navigate the challenges that can come with change and growth. I strive to meet each client where they are, offering compassion, understanding, and encouragement while helping them recognize the strengths and potential they already possess. My therapeutic approach is collaborative and individualized. I primarily incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) strategies to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors and develop practical skills for navigating current struggles. I also draw from approaches such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Exposure and Response Prevention, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and person-centered and strengths-based approaches. For clients who desire it, I also offer a faith-based approach that integrates spiritual well-being with mental health in a way that respects each person’s beliefs and values. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from Auburn University and my Master of Social Work from the University of Georgia. It is a privilege to walk alongside clients as they gain insight, develop new skills, and discover hope and possibility for the journey ahead. You don’t have to navigate life’s challenges alone. I would be honored to journey with you.
